PatientFlow™
Guiding a new product to success within a competitive pharmaceutical category relies on well-executed market and customer research. Too often, this research is heavily dependent on treatment patterns described in physician interviews and surveys that is often based on subjective recall. Attitudinal data elicited from qualitative research is also subject to bias because questions posed by pharmaceutical marketers are often derived from hypotheses about therapeutic areas that are often not accurate.
To address these issues, Insight Strategy Advisors has created PatientFlow™, a patient longitudinal mapping application that systematically analyzes thousands of HIPAA-compliant patient claims to provide:
- Understanding of when and where treatment decisions are made, pinpointing the precise role of specific therapeutic interventions
- Understanding of the depth of clinical unmet needs existing across a broad range of treated conditions, based on the risks created by the actual clinical practices of thousands of physicians and dozens of sub-specialties
Insight Strategy Advisors has spent three years creating and refining Patient Flow ™ after continuously working with qualitative primary research that failed to tell us what the target customer really wanted. Our quest focused on creating an application that would provide specific granularity around treatment success and failure and their link to specific prescribing patterns
Where does the data come from?
- National Claims Databases which collect medical and pharmacy data from 3rd party Private Payers, who manage insurance coverage for over 100 million U.S. citizens, and pharmacies via claims processing networks
- Between 3 and 10 years of patient history available, depending on the database selected
- Data selected based on ICD-9 coding, Drug Therapy, or any other selectable criteria available based on completion of standard U.S. medical claims forms (e.g. HCFA-1500)
- Data purchased based on appropriateness to assignment and ability to address key client questions
What do we do with the data?
- Insight Strategy Advisors utilizes a proprietary data management technology to perform analysis queries
- “Linking” methodologies are defined to create data groupings and subset populations characterizing specific treatment patterns
- Analysis of subset populations are conducted by performing additional queries and conclusions are compared with existing secondary research and validated with input from an ISA expert panel of Thought Leaders
The ISA PatientFlow™ team routinely handles multi-gigabyte databases, running multi-factor queries across millions of patient claims.
